3D CENTER OF ART & PHOTOGRAPHY - FIFTH ANNIVERSARY ACTIVITIES

The 3D Center opened its doors to the public in February of 2004. We are preparing to celebrate five years of this unique institution in 2009 by publishing a book and creating a projected show highlighting examples of works by all 40 plus artists during the period that the Center has been open.

This page has been created to help these artists because we would like to solicit from each of you 4-6 high resolution digital files. We would like at least half of them to be from the actual original images displayed or projected during this time. To help you, we have compiled a PDF of sample images that you had sent in the past for publicity purposes but unfortunately we don't have other image files. Needless to say, we need more image files and we would like for these to be at the resolution specified below.

Look through the PDF and find your page. Hopefully this will help you remember what you had on display originally at the 3D Center. The images will end up as a printed book and also as a projected show. We need the image files saved in TIFF format at a minimum resolution of 1200 x 900 pixels for each left and right image. If your images are of of different aspect ratio, the smallest dimension needs to be 1000 pixels. If the original was a single image, such as an anaglyph, the file needs to be at least 1000 pixels in the smallest dimension. If you do not have digital images (for example if your originals are only slides, we would like to ask you to scan 4-6 slides at the highest practical resolution and send us the files. In case you want to compare the above dimensions to a printed image, then it would to be saved as 4" x 3" at 300 ppi.

In addition we also need between 100-300 words of an artist statement which should be broader than the usual text provided only for an exhibit. Since this will published as a book, the readers will be interested to know more about you, your background, your motivation in making your art, etc.

In order to be ready with the publication and show on time, we need all this by the end of October 2008 - there is plenty of time but we would appreciate it if you can send us the materials before that. We realize that this may be a burden to you or that you may not be interested to pursue this matter any further. In such a case, at least send us a written permission to use what we have on the linked PDF. An email would be sufficient.

Because we are doing a publication we need your written permission to publish your images in a book and in a projected show. Proper credit will be given to all published artists. The proceeds from selling the book will benefit  the operation of the 3D Center, which is still the only public 3D gallery and museum in the USA.

You may send the images via a free service which allows the transfer of large files. One example is www.yousendit.com and if you want, you may send all images in one single zipped file. However, if you prefer, you may send your files on disc to me:

Finally, we would appreciate to know as soon as possible if you will be participating in this project or prefer not to do so. We need to know this information so that we can start planning for it. My contact for sending files or asking questions is: shablevy@comcast.net

In addition to the PDF, you will also find a link to a data base showing all artists and shows at the 3D Center.
